Gregor Derntl is an Austrian-based economist and provenance researcher. After working in refugee aid and development cooperation and writing a historical master's thesis on art restitution, he has been a freelance provenance researcher for private collections and public institutions since 2012. From 2012 to 2018, he was a provenance researcher for the Upper Austrian State Museum and in 2019, as part of a research project on the Justus Schmidt Collection, he served in the same capacity for the NORDICO Stadtmuseum Linz. His main goal is to reconstruct art collections, which were lost and looted during the Nazi terror in Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
